The collection of twenty woodcuts of artist Don La Viere Turner represents an innovation of both the color woodcut medium and a development of a strong personal visual language. The combination of medium and content possesses a vitality that's unique in printmaking. The use of broad unmodulated and off-key colors of Turner reflects the printmaking that exploded in America during the 50's and 60's. Turner's prints carry the continuation of Edvard Munch and Paul Gaugin's use of flat (planed) woods i.e. pine and fir and jig sawed block's which resulted in the flattening of the picture to enhance the broad, bold colors. The expression of a shadow world loaded with archetypal and symbolic imagery offers a rich experience to young artists who are hungry to develop a language of their own. The woodcut collection is available to colleges and museums at $1500 for a six-week period plus shipping and insurance. Please contact Gerry Turner at
